My 5y son has now been diagnosed with severe wheat allrgy. Was on glutan free diet but now discovered that the flour i was using for baking bread etc has a wheat derivitive in it! Have been giving him shop bought bread this week but now begging me to give him the white soft bread again. Feeling really crap and would like a suggestion for a good wheat free alternative. ( have tried Dove etc but useless!)

oh, the poor wee thing.

I'm gluten free, but OK with codex wheat starch. I'm not sure about wheat free alternatives only sorry, but there are a few people with similar problems on here so hopefully someone will be along soon.

just had a thought.....buckwheat flour is gluten and wheat free (inspite of the name). It's a muddy grey colour though so he might not like it, but it does make lovely pancakes.

oh, and he is entitled to get his bread and stuff on prescription. Talk to your GP about what he is entitled to. You should also ask for a referral to a dietician, if you haven't had this already.

Just found this on the glutafin website. I know they do prescription stuff, and their glutafin select white bread is lovely. I think they should do a GF/WF one too.

good luck.

ps if you ask for wheat free advice in the title of a new thread, you'll probably get a few more responses

Thank you sooo much! I looked up the Glutafin stuff from the link and it looks better than what we're currently giving him. Got another play area birthday party to attend Sat so in for more fun with the 'can i eat this??' !! Will try and 'do' a new thread! ( quite new to this!)
