My one year old has had 2 incidents at nursery over the last couple of weeks. He has a what looks to be an allergic reaction to something.
The first time he had just eaten some tomato and pepper soup with bread and suddenly kicked off, was hysterical and a blotchy red rash came out on his arms, legs and face.
2 weeks later the same thing happened.he had had jerk chicken and rice but this time it took 3 hours before the same reaction happened.
The episodes last about 20 to 30 minutes. He seems very very upset and then the rash subsides and he seems completely better again. The docs are not being too helpful we just have to use piriton and wait until his allergy testing at the hospital which is in a month's time. I'm doing everything I can to try and work It out but struggling to find the cause.
I'm not convinced it's food related as the foods he has been eating are things he has had multiple times before and not had a reaction
Has anyone else experienced this ?
Any help appreciated!

The second one is unlikely to be good as most reactions happen really quickly, and max within 2 hours.

Could it be environmental? Latex maybe?

Hives in children is more likely to be not allergy related, and allergies can be to anything, so for now all you can do is monitor and keep a diary.

Thanks for both your messages, we are all thinking its unlikely to be food with the delay the second time but just can't figure out what else it could be. He was at nursery and they said they had all the usual stuff out, nothing new. Thanks for responding xx

If it was an allergic reaction it wouldn't be something new, you can only react to something you've already encountered and developed antibodies to. But, as I said, it's more likely that it wasn't allergy related.

Update. He has come out with chicken pox now. Do you think that it could have been related to the chicken pox virus?! Seems a bit unusual but could be ?

Yes, I bet it was, hives before or after a virus isn't unusual at all.

Hope he's better soon Flowers
