How many tins of Nutramigen does your dr give you at a time?

I'm asking because we used to get 3 which I didn't think was a lot but we've been changed onto Nutramigen 2 and the dr's have cut it down to 2 tins per prescription!

I've worked out that will last me about 8 days - surely they can't expect me to manage with that amount? It takes 48 hours to order a prescription so I'll have to be one step ahead all the time and what are we going to do about holidays??

Is anybody else limited to such small amounts?

They limit it because it's really expensive. That way parents don't stockpile the stuff and have loads left over when their little angels move on to bigger and better milk.

Flibbertyjibbet · 14/04/2008 15:41

this is why

Some people have no shame!!!

awayfromhome · 14/04/2008 15:44

I get 30 tins a prescription, and my ds is on Nutramigen 2.

Clearly my doctors are much more relaxed than I thought

avenanap · 14/04/2008 15:44

£7.81 a tin this stuff costs the NHS. They can't afford to pay the nurses where I live.

jaspersslave · 14/04/2008 21:57

when my ds was on nutramigen 2 we were allowed 6 tins per script.
2 tins is just ridculous, i suggest you ask if they r gonna do that then you shouldnt have to wait 48hrs for repeat, its not fair.
what you meant to do if he has a bad time teething or ill and drinks more milk than usual.

Psychomum5 · 14/04/2008 22:01

I don;t get it now as DS2 came off his this time last year, but he got 7tins per script.

as did DD2 and DD3 in fact when they were on infasoy.

I always made sure I had a moths supply as then I was covered if we had hospital admittances/holidays/illness in general.

I was also lucky tho that my local chemist always stocked it reasy for me for my next scritp so that as soon as I went in they had it, instead of me then having to wait for the ordering IYGWIM.

would your docs allow you to have 1mths worth at all.....tis not an unreasonable request as many peoples scripts are normally for 3mths on other meds.

PixelHerder · 14/04/2008 22:04

Eh - am about the Ebay selling, why are people buying it when it's free on prescription (or am I missing something really obvious)???

We only get prescribed 2 tins at a time, but DD only has one bottle a day as she's 20 months so it's not too bad.

EzrasMummy · 14/04/2008 22:17

I get Pregestimil and i used to get 3 tins but now i get 6. for a few weeks i store 1 every time i get a prescription because as you say, it takes a while to get the milk.

Go to your GP and ask for 6. thats what i did

Deux · 14/04/2008 22:25

I used to get 8 tins per script and the GP put the script on repeat. I think this was a month's supply. As soon as I put the repeat request into the GP, the chemist (at the surgery) would order it in so it was ready when the script was. I had to make this request though and the GP didn't have a problem.

Even with 8 tins I used to panic about running out and did once when we were all ill. I'm sure I paid £12 or so for a tin from the biggest Boots that had it in stock.

Poor you, it must be a right faff.

You could show your GP this thread.

I get six tins each time, Dr was fairly relazed about it. Ds on Nutramigen 2.

Mayme · 15/04/2008 07:52

that was meant to say relaxed!

taniashort · 15/04/2008 18:14

My Gp was a real toughie as well - I kept saying we were off on holiday to get extra stock - she must have thought we were real jet setters! i also got my chemist to keep stock in that I'ld buy in emergencies - pricey mistake though!
Hope you can change your doc's mind.
Tania

Thanks for all your replies! I'm going to argue my case with each prescription they give me until hopefully they get sick of me!

Can't believe it was on e-bay! (might get it from there instead - less hassle than my gp )

As for holidays, we're off to America and I've even rung the company over there to make sure we can buy it so I don't run out.

I'll be off to the chemist tomorrow for the 3rd time this week......
