Hello. Panicking slightly and would appreciate being pointed in the direction of facts!
Ive always had acrylic and gel nails - fine. No reaction ever. About 6 months ago, my salon encouraged me to switch to BIAB (builder gel), saying it was a better product. I didn't think anything of it and said ok. I was happy with the product and had infills regularly.
About 2 months ago, I noticed some lifting in one or two of my nails. I assumed it was where I had knocked them and caused damage and my salon agreed this was probably the cause. It would grow out.
A different technician saw me today and was concerned. He removed all the product and confirmed I had an allergy, and saw that lots of my nails were lifting away from the bed. This wasn't sore at all, but obviously was concerning. He removed the product and reassured me that the damage would grow out. Fine.
Now I've had a google and can see all the press reporting about BIAB etc triggering allergies to Methacrylites, and the long term this could have on health care and feel very upset. I would never have risked this had I known.
But it's hard to determine exactly what the link/damage is. Will a reaction to BIAB mean I react to all methacrylites? Do I need to get a proper test? I've had white fillings before with no problems. I'm very worried. GP appt booked but it's not for a bloody fortnight.
Grateful for any insights anyone can share.
