Hayfever or not?

I’ve been suffering for what seems to be text book cold. Started with a sore throat, blocked nose, now cough and dripping nose, swollen face and a bit of coloured flegm. My colleague tells me it’s hayfever. I don’t think I’ve ever had it, maybe just mild symptoms like a runny nose. But this, this is a full blown cold. My acupuncturist seems to thing it isn’t a cold either. I took a Pititize last night but I am just as bad this morning, worse actually. Does anyone suffer from this type of hayfever?

Taking a piriteze once won't sort it. You need
To take it daily not just when symptomatic. I am in the SE and the pollen is very very high, I am on fexo and beconase and my eyes and nose are just dripping.

Hayfever certainly could cause all those symptoms; the sore throat and cough could be from the drippy nose going down the back of your throat. Have you been itchy at all? Doesn’t happen for everyone but my eyes/nose/throat will feel itchy. How long have you had the symptoms for? If it were a cold it should be getting better after a few days. If it’s not improving or getting worse, it’s maybe something else.

Piriteze contains cetirizine which hasn’t been doing anything for my hay fever the past couple of years. I’ve had to switch to loratidine and, once a reaction is going, it’ll take me a few days of antihistamines to stop it. So could be hay fever even if piriteze didn’t do much the first time.

@HighHeelsOnCobblestones i’ve had the symptoms for 3-4 days now, but it started with a sore throat. The drippy nose only afterwards. I am so hoping it’s just a cold. No itchiness either.

May also be worth doing a covid test.

Candyrushsaga · 02/07/2024 12:09

Thanks, I normally wouldn’t be bothered if it were Covid or not, but this could rule out the allergy of it comes up positive.

Can hayfever affect your voice as well? My entire face is achey, and my teeth as well, only a bit though.

Yup, a few people have said that the latest covid variant starts out like hayfever.

I work in a school. So much of what we thought was hayfever was, in fact, Covid. Including my own symptoms.

Achy face and teeth sounds more like sinusitis https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/sinusitis-sinus-infection/#overview

Hayfever season has been going for a few weeks now (grass pollen usually highest May-July) so probably not hay fever if it’s been 3-4 days.

Did a Covid test, it’s come back negative. I’ve actually had issues with one nostril being blocked since last time I had Covid, never went back to normal. Nothing major but a nuisance sun I get a old. It’s the same nostril that is blocked now and tried a couple of spray, including one I’ve used successfully in the past but none worked this time. A lemsip made me feel a bit better though, the caffeine probably.
I’ve had these symptoms for 4 days now, I know someone asked.
Good night to you all! X
