Hello, I thought this might be the most likely place that I might find someone that has had a similar experience. I was recently in Vienna, and for a number of days my mouth and throat become very swollen.
I have deduced that this must be due to a nut reaction as this is my only surviving food alergy. I did notice that some chocolate that I had been eating contained haselnut paste. This was the Milka Alpinemilk chocolate, which you can also get in the UK, where in the UK, it does not contain any nuts, but in Vienna, haselnut paste is listed in the ingredients. But my mouth and throat flared up again some days after that. The sorts of food that I was eating around the times of the flareups were mostly bread, salami, butter, cheese, leberkase, and on my last night I visited a restaurant that also gave me a reaction. This was a traditional upscale restaurant that served boiled meat in broth with vegetables and bread. I am 46 and have had a nut allergy all my life, so I would think that I am quite skilled at managing it, but this experience has really surprised me, as I am really stuck as to what the issue is. I wonder if anyone else with this allergy has had a similar experience. My best guesses are that it is either some kind of nut oil glaze that has been used on the bread, or some kind of nut oil that has been included in the leberkase, or in the salami. Even a nut oil in the butter, which as a blended butter spread rather than a block of butter. Any comments or suggestions welcome.
