I don't wear lipstick/lipgloss that often, but notice with some brands I get this wierd sensation in my throat - like itchy and wanting to cough - any ideas what this could be?

clinique lipsticks are fragrance free and really good quality

fizzbuzz · 21/03/2008 21:25

I'm allergic to most lipsticks, especially Clinique, so yes they can cause allergies. They make my lips swell, itch and then turn sore. Some are worse than others.

I can just about use Bodyshop ones and that's about it. Putting lipsyll on before I put lipstick on also helps.

It does sound like an allergy......

Rosa · 22/03/2008 12:42

Def allergy . If you can get a test then you know what ingredient you are allergic to. It could be a pigment or a chemical . MOst places have the ingredient list somewhere if not on the packet. I am allergic to a chemical and now I know what it is I can avoid. Try testing on hand to see if you get a red mark or itching .

Thanks - not allergic to anything else as far as I know - doesn't effect my skin on my hand

mmm then maybe its not . With me it brings a reaction if I put on hand .

fizzbuzz · 22/03/2008 13:55

I don't get a reaction anywhere else. Allergies often affect the mucous membranes first ( I hate that word mucous...yuk..yuk, almost as bad as thread on here about most hated words which were panties and moist I believe.....please ignore my rambling)

swerve · 22/03/2008 16:17

I have a strong allergy to anything with parabens in them (methyl-, butyl-, ethyl-l) and its in most cosmetics. Dr Hauschka, some Aveda (I love to the aveda lip tints). but it may be that. Try one without and see if it makes a difference. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parabens

janx · 22/03/2008 16:26

Lol fizzbuzz - yes I know what you mean about certain words.
Swerve - do you get the throat itch too?
