CMPA or Eczema

Hello all

I just wanted advice re out 7 week old daughter. She is currently breastfed by my superhuman wife. A little under 2 weeks ago she developed 'baby acne'. We saw the GP for 6 week check up and they recommended trying a moisturiser on it.

A few days later we trialed child's farm moisturiser and that same day her skin got red, angry and peeling. We took her back to GP who said its either a reaction to moisturiser or Eczema. He prescribed a very gentle moisturiser which we have been using.

This morning she woke up with her skin as in the photo attached. It dies seem to get better immediately after moisturising.

She also suffers from frequent silent reflux. She's rarely sick, and not often in pain with it but can be. So far the doctors have been unwilling to try a PPI or Gaviscon.

My question is, does anyone think this rash looks like CPMA, or does it look like Eczema?

Thank you

It could be either at this stage although it doesn’t look typically like eczema to me. Would your wife be prepared to trial cutting out dairy for a while? It can take quite a while to get out of the system but you’d probably notice some improvement after a day or so.

I'm sure we could certainly try it. Thank you.

Eczema is a symptom of cmpa so I'd cut dairy out, see if it improves and challenge the allergy after a few weeks. Join the cmpa breastfeeding Facebook group.

I've attached pics of my DD's cmpa rash of it helps, This is when it first appeared and before it turned into full blown eczema

My little boy had horrific eczema when I was breastfeeding and we got referred to the dermatologist. He definitely had eczema but I was convinced an allergy to cows milk. It turned out it was an egg allergy. Once I cut our eggs his skin did improve.

My boys was dairy and eggs. Dairy caused bloody nappies, egg caused the eczema.

Oh poor thing. DTs skin looked like that when they had infected eczema.
