Nut-free Nutella Substitute?

Snuggy75 · 02/10/2023 17:34

Help! My son is going through a phase of eating less and less foods and it is getting almost impossible to find things for his lunchbox that he will eat.

He loves nutella, but we are a nut free school (and I wouldn't risk sending it even if it wasn't a rule), has anyone found a good nut free alternative that tastes like the real thing?

Thanks!

Cadbury chocolate spread is pretty acceptable to my Nutella crazy daughter.

RockaLock · 02/10/2023 17:37

Most chocolate spreads seem to be nut based. We use Cadbury's chocolate spread, which is nut free and tastes OK (although different to Nutella).

There are a few honey-based chocolate spreads that are nut free, I think, but we haven't tried them.

I would caution you to check the school lunch policy a lot operate healthy eating policies. Our school would confiscate and issue a warning.

Xpost with @FatandRoundBouncingontheGround !

Thanks for flagging that! Fortunately the school seems to be fairly lenient and I would absolutely go into bat for him eating something rather than nothing!

I think we tried that a couple of years ago but will give it another try! Unfortunately, he only really likes Nutella and chocolate ice cream but isn’t that keen on actual chocolate (no, I am not sure he is actually my son)!

Marmite?

M and s do a cookie one (half white half milk I think). Dh was pleased when we bought in uk as Ds is nut free

If you want a nut free butter, we use sunflower seed

My child’s primary school put a ban on all chocolate spread after a few parents decided Nutella was easily explained as cadburys. My airborne anaphylactic child had multiple ambulances until the culprit was identified.

Triptree do a nice one.

We are nut and milk free so buy this one. Seems reasonable price too.

We're nut free and find most either contain nuts or are overly sweet. Instead we've been having biscoff spread.

This absolutely if your child has sensory issues with food and will only eat Nutella like my daughter who is autistic a nut free chocolate spread is acceptable they have to make reasonable adjustments my daughter won't eat they said no Nutella so I'm sending in nut free chocolate spread healthy school or not she has a medical condition
