Hi, although my son hasn't had a reaction like this to colourings, he has to nuts and the gp wouldn't test him, just said to avoid them. This page may be useful for you to look at re other colourings as it mention side effects etc HTH

I have just started taking fluoxetine(prozac) and the leaflet states that the colouring sunset yellow E110 in particular may cause allergic reactions..symptoms are rash, itching, swollen face or lips and shortness of breath

Hi,

I have had intolerance to E110 Sunset Yellow since I was little. I caused some very bad behaviour/tantrums, I am now 23 and I still haven?t grown out of it. I have read that an intolerance of E110 is linked to intolerance to Aspirin.

Today I took some antibiotics, which (unknowingly) had the E110 colouring in them. It caused me some quite severe side affects with-in mins of taking them. I started to get very Pepped up, Narky and nasty, short tempered and hyperactive. As the symptoms went on I had a shortness of breath and chest pains. My heart was also racing. I also have had indigestion, which is pretty painful.

If you suspect that you or your child have a problem with E110 avoid it! Especially check any medication which is prescribed, as they hold more E no's than you might think. I also read that a reaction to E110 can cause Kidney tumours so be careful.

One relief is that the doctor told me that to have a severe reaction is VERY rare.
