Coeliac

After 7 months of recurrent diarrhoea I have seen a GP who believes it may be Coeliac and I have been tested today (awaiting results)

I am struggle to agree if this is possible however as I don’t have symptoms every time I eat gluten, although every time I have diarrhoea is after eating lots of gluten.

Does anyone have coeliac or a gluten allergy and doesn’t react every time they consume it?

Ask for this to be moved to the Autoimmune disease board , coeliac disease is neither an allergy or intolerance . My daughter is coeliac and pre diagnosis reaction was hit and miss , having been eating strictly gf for over 10 yrs she now knows very quickly if she’s been glutened .

Yes I have glutened myself on occasion without symptoms, or at least without digestive symptoms. (I suspect a couple of my supposed lupus "flares" early on were actually attributable to gluten.) How stressed I was also seemed to make a difference.

But trust the test. Is it the endoscopy you've just had? Or the blood test?

Tunnocks34 · 14/07/2023 16:49

Just the blood test so far. Apparently that will inform if I need more tests.

only other symptoms I’ve had are mouth Ulcers.

I don’t know if I have it but I have been trying to loose weight so eating mostly fruit and vegetables for the past week. Then I had a big bowl of pasta followed by an awful migraine about an hour later. I suffer with them a lot and now thinking it could be gluten intolerance even though it isn’t every time. I’m trying not to eat any more for a while and then trying it here and there to see if it triggers the headache having been off it

Not every coeliac sufferer has symptoms at all..

Mouth ulcers are a classic autoimmune symptom. So might be suggestive.

Yes. Dd was like this before her diagnosis. Now she’s gluten free if she eats any gluten by accident she’ll have a violent reaction every time. But when you’re eating it all the time your intestines are so damaged you don’t absorb stuff inc gluten very well
