My little girl was prescribed Gaviscon for her reflux at 5 weeks old. We believed the Gaviscon was making her constipated so the GP advised 2.5ml of lactulose every morning to keep her regular and comfortable. She is now 3 months, and although the Gaviscon does help, she is still quite a sicky baby.
About 3 weeks ago she started coming up with a rash on her belly. I took her to the GP and he advised it was viral and to bring her back in 7 days if it hadn’t cleared or got any worse, 3 days later it began appearing on her legs and behind her ears so I bought her back in. I was told it was eczema and prescribed hydrocortisone to use for 7 days. This had absolutely no impact, and the rash continued to spread, at this stage it’s pretty much everywhere, including her eyelids, cheeks, legs, arms and her belly. I took her back to the GP and they then said it was hormonal.
She was due her vaccinations on Tuesday and the nurse said she wasn’t comfortable doing them because of the developing rash my daughter had, and instead wanted her to be seen by a GP again.
This most recent appointment has brought to light a possible cows milk protein allergy, and we are now trialing 2 weeks on a suitable formula to see if there is any improvement. We really do hope this helps, but we have been given so many different answers we feel at a bit of a loss. Not to mention little lady really doesn’t like this new milk, and is refusing to drink anymore than an ounce at a time!
I will add that our little girl isn’t unhappy, or doesn’t appear to be in pain or discomfort; but she does have about 5 dirty nappies a day on average.. and sneezes a lot!
Have any parents out there experienced similar and would be able to say whether they think this rash is eczema or an allergy?
Any advice welcome!
