Hi!
We'll be self catered for much of the trip so I'm wondering how much food labelling might be in English? Not holding out much hope ...
Any tips on how to get through the holiday? He loves eating so many different foods, it'll be sad if he misses out.

We had a stopover in Tokyo for a few days while on holiday with our dd a few years ago. She is allergic to milk, egg, nuts and fish.

Unfortunately most food labels are in Japanese, so we had to look up the characters for the ingredients. They have 7 allergens on the main list but only peanut is on there, there is a further list that includes walnut and cashew.
this info is useful:

Allergy translation cards are a must have. We managed to eat out at a couple of places using them:

We also packed lots of safe snacks, and stuck to familiar foods.

Good luck with the trip, I’m sure you will have a great time!
