Can anyone tell me why my skin is doing this?

Hello

Sounds so silly but it's really getting me down, for some reason my skin has flared up over the last 8/9 months, I have been to the doctors and they gave me a antibiotic/steroid cream which has made it so much worse?! It's now spread into my chin area and more across, to begin with it was only a little bit below my nose! It's like a red rash with raised bumps as you can see in picture, it gets so itchy and also very sore! I'm seeing a dermatologist on the 28th but just so eager to get rid of it, so if anyone can shine any light to what they think it is?
I'm thinking maybe an allergy to something I'm eating, I'm taking allergy tablets and I have cetraben ointment I'm putting on it which is why it's so shiny in the pic!

Thanks 😞

Not sure but makes me think rosacea maybe. Typically it's on the cheeks but I know someone who had it around the nose like this.

You could be reacting to the creams you are using - do you think it would be worth stopping them for a while to see if there is any improvement? If the steroid cream has made your skin worse, I’d stop using it.

Other conditions that spring to mind are folliculitis, and perioral dermatitis, which I think commonly occurs along the nasolabial folds.

One simple treatment to try would be using a little bit of anti fungal shampoo (ketaconozole) as a face wash and see if it helps.

Yes I don't think it's rosacea as it's so aggressive and sore!
@Nearlyneverready yes I've cut all the creams I've been using out now, I'm literally just using water on it as I don't want to upset it more! Thank you I will try the things you've suggested, I'm seeing a dermatologist on 28th so hopefully get some answers 😞 it's awful - so sore all the time then here itchy! Xx

I am pretty sure it’s perioral dermatitis, I had it, and my GP prescribed steroids which did take the worst of it down, but apparently makes the whole thing much worse and prolongs it, so the dermatologist I saw told me. They gave me 3 months of low dose antibiotic pills and some sort of cream I can’t remember, and also wrote a sharp note to my GP. GPS just don’t get much Dermotology training (I say this as a lifelong eczema sufferer). The derm will sort you out. You gave my sympathy.

HAVE my sympathy

emmaloubx · 04/02/2023 14:54

@Luredbyapomegranate ah thank you so much! Yes I'm just praying they can sort it, really gets you down doesn't it! I feel so ugly at moment lol!
Hoping my appointment comes around quickly! X

The shape of it round your nose looks very much like perioral dermatitis, which steroid cream will make worse. Antibiotic cream is what's normally prescribed.

emmaloubx · 04/02/2023 14:59

@SpamIAm you're the second who's said this now! Thank you, I will look into it. Yes steroid cream made it spread rapidly! It's so sore! Horrible! Can't wait for it to be gone xx

I had a very similar experience. Not sure what triggered it but it covered most of the right side of my face from my eyebrows to my chin. Inflamed, weeping, just awful. I have been diagnosed with rosacea. Steroid treatments made it worse. 3 courses of antibiotics, fucidin (sp) and rozex gel sorted it, but it took a long time. I also used an emollient to wash. I do occasionally have a light flare up. Hope you resolve it soon x

emmaloubx · 04/02/2023 15:07

@VenusStarr Ahh it's just horrible isn't it?! Really affects your confidence! It's spread onto my chin now also all under my nose where before it was just a little part since using the steroid cream! Awful! Hope I get it sorted like you have! I have had flare ups before but it went on its own! But this time it's been about 11 months! X

Do they turn into blisters? Do you come into contact with plants?

emmaloubx · 04/02/2023 15:17

@SameToo no not blisters, they are tiny little bumps, my skin is bumpy all on that red area and they sometimes go dry on top of the little bumps! It's so weird, I don't have any plants xx
