Hi!!My son has allergy to milk protein and he is on neocate since he was 4 months. At 12 months he had blood tests and his liver enzymes (Ast,Alt) were elevated. We repeated the blood test 3 times and its still elevated.I want to ask if someone had similar experience while on neocate as side effect.

I've not heard of that before @mariannapa. What have they said will happen now?

mariannapa · 01/02/2023 20:35

We are testing him for several diseases but one doctor mentioned that it could be cause of neocate so we ve changed to a rice milk and we will have blood tests in 3 weeks to see if this could be the reason. I don’t think so and that s why i m asking if someone have heard of this side effect. We had genetic test for cystic fibrosis and metabolic syndromes and we are waiting the results

It must be so worrying for you. I hope you get some responses Flowers

You could ask this question on the main group for cmpa on Facebook. You can do it as a anonymous poster too. Maybe the best place to ask x

It is so difficult not having a diagnosis for more than 6 months…I cannot handle it any more

Hello, can you please update us about what happened with your baby? i am in exact same boat.

dementedpixie · 17/07/2023 20:33

Didn't think rice based milks were suitable under the age of 5. What age is you child now?

MandyBM · 18/07/2023 02:12

Rice based formula? Neocate is Amino Acid based not rice based.

YukoandHiro · 18/07/2023 02:17

I've not heard of this but if he's over 12 months he should be on soy or oat milk ideally - does he have gluten and soy allergy too? Do you have a dietician?

mariannapa · 18/07/2023 04:55

We cut off neocate and we did blood tests 4 weeks later.Liver enzymes went down!!!not to normal range yet but really close to normal. So…i guess that neocate caused it.We will retest him in august.Does your kid have also evelated liver enzymes?

He is now on rice “milk” as he is also allergic to soy.He was tested negative for celiac disease. After changing to rice milk his liver enzymes dropped down

Rice milk is not recommended under age 5 due to arsenic levels (as far as I am aware). Oat milk is often recommended and there is a 1+ milk that is fortified for that age group. Have also heard of oatly barista being used.

mariannapa · 18/07/2023 11:20

Its rice milk for children between 1-3 years old which is green peas and 7% of rice .Its not one of the common brands that you can find in the supermarket.I know that rice milk its not the best choice for young kids thats why we chose this one

Hi! Thank you for your update. Yes my baby has also high liver enzymes. Did your lo LO tested negative for genetic and metabolic disprders?

mariannapa · 22/07/2023 15:52

Yes!!!Everything came back negative. We also tested him for cystic fibrosis because he had steatorrhea(fat in poop) everything came back negative and the fat level in his poop went back to normal when we stopped neocate

My child has allergy to milk and egg. We use oat milk. In UK there is a lot of advice on not using rice milk. I suggest speaking to a dietician.

mariannapa · 07/08/2023 06:13

Actually its a rice-beans milk.only 7%rice

Hello, I hope everything üs ok with your child. Have you tested his liver enzymes again?

mariannapa · 03/09/2023 13:10

We got the results this week. They remained stable but still elevated .We will check with a gastroenterologist.Ultrasound showed normal liver after stopping neocate( before he had fatty liver) so we wait for our appointment in 3 months…

Hi, I know this is an old post but I'm wondering what came of your little boys situation. My LB has cmpa and was on neoctate, since he was 5mo he has had raised liver enzymes which peaked at 12 months (alongside an ultrasound that showed mild inflammation)and then dropped again after stopping neonate but have remained slightly elevated but his ultrasound is now clear. We haven't had any form of diagnosis yet either.

mariannapa · 31/03/2025 11:38

We went through all kind of tests!!You cannot even imagine.Even full genetic panel.Everything was coming back normal. After 1.5 of stopping Neocate my son s liver enzymes went back to normal!!!We never got a diagnosis but i m 90% sure it was cause of Neocate. Dont worry it takes time

Thanks so much for responding! I've been so worried that my baby has managed to contract hepatitis B or something 🙈
