If a mother is lactose intolerant, does her breast milk contain lactose?

I think it does - but my son who has posed the question as he clearly has nothing better to worry about despite being a 3rd year uni student supposedly working on his dissertation will not accept just my thoughts.

There are sugars in all mammal milks, breast milk will contain human sugars as well as extracts of whatever the mother's diet contains. If the mother goes dairy free of cows milk, there won't be traces of cow's milk in her breast milk. I think this is the question you were asking?

If you are lactose intolerant, the intolerance is often restricted to your digestive system - you are lacking the digestive enzyme to cope with lactose within your intestines.

So breasts producing milk with lactose wouldn't be affected.
