Formula and eczema/rash

Hi ladies,

Can anyone help me please?

I have just introduced formula to my 6 month old. I made his baby porridge with it last week and noticed a slight rash. Left it for a few days and gave him a formula bottle last night before bed. Today the rash (Across his chest) is bright red, very angry and raised up.
I took him to the doctor who said it was eczema and prescribed a steroid cream (which I really do not want to use!)

I asked if it could be a reaction to the formula and he said unlikely...

Can I have some opinions please? I am lactose intolerant but the doctor said that its unlikely he would be!

HELP!

You are so right..without MN I would be a complete wreck! It just makes me feel so comforted to know that I am not alone in all this.

Meep, Im so sorry to hear that your LO suffers so badly with her eczema
Momma, thanks again for making me feel normal!

I am prepared for him not to like it and keeping my fingers crossed its not too awful.

Big hugs ladies
x

Orinoco, thank you (for making me feel less alone in all this). I have made myself desperately unhappy about this all day and now I sit here red eyed and exhausted (while LO has of course spent the day bouncing around and smiling, albeit covered in a nasty red rash!)

I never thought about the egg connection until Waynetta mentioned it. I guess its a 'suck it and see' situation.
Im sorry to hear your LO had a reaction too, is she okay now?

I am going to see how the rash is tomorrow and decide on the cream. If it clears it up that quickly then maybe will give it a go if it doesn't look any better.
Thanks again.

Momma - sounds like your little one has a real hard time of it. I can relate to it because I too have a ton of allergies (all of which cause disgusting side effects)...if i have the wrong thing in a restaurant I have 20 mins to find a bathroom (if you know what i mean!)

I just picked up the prescription for the formula. I made some up to taste it myself...OH MY GOD! I instantly gagged. This stuff smells and tastes disgusting...as if its not bad enough they have to suffer the side effects of having an allergy they cant even make the alternative palatable.
I feel bad even offering him this....starting to feel really guilty again....poor little man

well, i have some news! lo is currently perched on my lap having downed 3oz of the stuff! he gagged at first (the smell is enough!), but he then closed his eyes and drank the 3....i am most pleasantly surprised.

i wish i could breastfeed for a year but have to return to work sadly (and not able to express due to the fact i work on client sites)

momma, thanks for being there for me, its really meant a lot. if ever i can be of assistance give me a shout (i have some good gluten/dairy free recipes )

I do need to relax and also to get some sleep! Have spent the past few nights up until all hours researching...btw, what did we do before the internet?

I've lived on this diet for around 10 years now and believe me its easier now than it was then! Can pass you some quick and easy recipes if you like (I'm guessing you don't have hours to cook....at least not right now!)

Thanks again for all your help and good luck with the twins...again, I think you deserve a medal for bf twins!

Big hugs
x

Laughing out loud at your medal pinning!

Sent you some recipes that are easy and quick. If you are into baking in a big way I have more but I'm guessing that like me you don't have much time on your hands!
