Hi, FTM here and I was wondering what have been other mums’ experiences with a suspected cows milk allergy?
Our LO started with loose nappies 2 days shy of 12 weeks. She did 7 dirty nappies that day and as the day went on it was as though the bottles were going straight through her. Within a minute of drinking she would poop! She seemed ok in herself but I rang 111 for advice and they said just to monitor her, let GP know if it lasted more than 24 hours or if she showed signs of dehydration. She was a bit better the next day but started up again the day after and has been ever since. She had her injections that day and nurse said it would be ok though the rotavirus one might upset her tummy a bit again.

Fast forward another 3 weeks (so we are now on week 4) I’ve been to GP twice as she is still having 5-8 runny dirty nappies a day (some huuuge, some just wet farts!) + wee nappies so GP has put her on Aptamil Pepti (couldn’t get hold of any Nurtramigen) initially for 2 weeks to see what happens then suggested going back to previous milk to see if it starts up again.

I suspected after 2 weeks it could be something more than a tummy bug and wondered whether she could be intolerant. I spoke to HV about changing formula and she told me to make another app with GP and persist with them. First app was by phone and she said to try another brand (we went from SMA to Kendamil but she seemed even worse on that and started spitting up after each feed which she never did before) and then on the next review she has put her on this Aptamil so I’m glad they are exploring now but her only symptom is the runny nappies and wind but she’s always been a windy baby which has got better as she’s gotten older but she doesn’t have any rashes, dry skin, hasn’t lost weight, was feeding as normal, no stuffy nose or coughing (except a cheeky fake one she does if we don’t pay her attention for too long!) and from what I’ve read it doesn’t sound like it would be an allergy but more like an intolerance? It’s still early days but she’s not a fan of the new formula and isn’t having much of it at each feed so my latest stress is that she’ll start losing weight but hoping she will learn to love it!

if it was an allergy wouldn’t she have more severe symptoms or am I taking the potential diagnosis too literally?

thanks x

Also what were your experiences with poop on Actimel Pepti? In 24 hours she’s gone from 5-7 runny nappies to just farting out undigested milk bits, no poo! 😕
thanks x
