Allergic to sushi?

I had shop bought sushi with wasabi couple of weeks ago and no reaction. I bought same stuff again and my lips swell straight after eating it. I took antihistamine and the lips calmed down slowly. Am I now allergic to sushi? Should I avoid it in future?

More likely to have been contaminated with something else that you are allergic too, if you didn't react last time?

Is there anything in the wider range that you be reacting to - shellfish, for example?

I haven't had any allergies before.

It’s highly unlikely that you are allergic to sushi in general. Short grain rice, vinegar and mirin are all pretty unlikely triggers for an allergic reaction. It’s more likely that there’s a specific ingredient now in that specific sushi or that there was cross contamination. Shellfish, sesame and egg all come to mind as being potential culprits. They are common in sushi and likely to be present anywhere where sushi is made.

Should I find out what caused the allergy? I haven't had allergic reactions before so I was quite shocked to see my lips swelling.

Yeah, I’d probably try to find out. What sort of sushi was it?

It was sushi only with salmon and tuna. They had sushi with other fish but I don't like them or ever tried them.
