We're away on holiday and needing to eat out. DD and I have a few allergies between us.
Today I spoke to six pubs/restaurants/fish & chip shops trying to find somewhere to eat, all of whom have had to switch to frying in soya bean oil following the shortage of rapeseed/sunflower oils.
The worrying thing is that none of these places was aware that their 'vegetable oil' was soya based until I asked them to check. They all seemed to have oil from the same supplier judging by the packaging.
Even places offering food that isn't deep fried were using this oil for cooking (a fish grill place and a creperie).
Eating out has always been a bit tricky for us but with the oil supply issues I'd say it's become almost impossible.
I just wondered if other people dealing with soya allergies were aware of this? And want to get the info out there in case it saves anyone getting ill.
The problem with the oil is that I think it might not occur to restaurants to check it for soya as this is a relatively new thing.
