Allergic to DD's kittens - any experience?

Hi

My DD got 2 kittens in November as early Santa present. I have had persistant cough since same time to point am being sick. Had doctor's appointment and my chest is clear but my airways are narrow. Doc thinks am allergic to kittens but had cats when younger and been around dogs and horses all my life!

Has anyone ever been allergic to cat litter; or had same reaction as me when getting kittens?

Am reluctant to give cats away as my daughter and I have had a rough time splitting up with violent expartner - exclusion orders etc. So kittens were to help her towards stability and expressing herself.

Thanks

DH had dogs when he was younger with no problems, yet when we got a dog late last year he found whenever he touched her, or she licked him, his whole arm would come out in hives. So I'd say yes, it's possible to become allergic to an animal you're previously been OK with.

As to having dogs and horses, the allergens for each animal are different, so you can be OK with one but not the others.

hiya , have you tryed taking some pirriton? might help if it is the cats.
i can understand why you wouldnt want to get rid of them,
my husbond is ilirgict to cats we have 3!, they say the allergy is cused by the dander (skin flakes) or a proteen in the cats spit, male cats tend to corse it more then femails,
some things to try if it dose turn out to be the cats .

  1. keep them out of your bed room
  2. wood or vanle floors not carpets in other room's 3)dust daily,
  3. blinds not curtians, and vinal or lether sofa chairs
  4. get your dd to brush the cats out side, 6)wash cat beds offten other things i have hurd but am not sure of is if it is a male get him nutered to lower the proteens, and a drop or 2 of viniger in the cats drinking water can so they say lower cat proteens even more,
