Severe external hemorrhoids & allergic reaction
13

Mumma10 · 23/06/2022 20:59

Any advice welcomed.

After having my baby, I had piles that became extremely swollen, I can’t actually remember how they went eventually but they did!

Fast forward 6 years, 2 weeks ago out of the blue one external one rears it’s ugly head, tried to pacify it with rest/ice wrapped in cloth/sitz baths but 5 days later out Pops another one but this time thrombosed, I went to casualty & they used local anaesthetic & lanced it/ flattened it! 2 days later excruciating pain get given laxative by Dr.
Another 2 days later I see GP & prescribed antibiotics & anusol suppositories used along with sitz baths & next day full on stinging in area & now 4 piles!

Stopped using anything and after extreme pain advised go to A&E as haemorrhoids require surgical team to assess - waited 6 hours - to be seen by surgeon and told 4 thrombosed haemorrhoids but due to this won’t remove them as could cause irreparable damage to sphincter!!
But to use ice wrapped in bandage/similar and apply as often as possible & given instillagel (local anaesthetic gel) to use as needed & if no better within 72 hours go back!
Fast forward 2 hours after going home and Hemorrhoids (I kid you not) tripled in size, skin around it all severely inflamed and swollen and same to skin on labia!!! It seemed to be from almost clear/slightly tinged yellow fluid coming from bottom that the culprit for it!
Phoned GP in agony & kindly told me go to clinic - she was surprised at all the swelling after seeing it Tuesday.
prescribed course antibiotics to clear bacteria on skin and another to help fight infection haemorrhoids to use immediately

I’m in absolute agony & the swelling is just unsettling.
I am unable to get comfortable, I’ve showered the area a ridiculous amount of times to keep clean,
i tried applying bepanthem barrier cream around skin to help stop the fluid irritating skin further but that’s irritated it too!

im a physical and emotional mess.
my skin is super sensitive!
any tips please?

Are you still using the suppositories and pile cream ?
Unfortunately they are notoriously slow to heal so keep going. Take painkillers if you need them - but not codeine.
I had an allergic reaction with mine and I needed steroid cream and antihistamines to cure mine, but it took a while.

I’ve stopped using both as was causing stinging.
Then this infection started and it’s been like acid on my skin,
i have taken antihistamines to help stop itching.
im spending so much time showering the area to stop this fluid making everything swell up.
im so tired as not sleeping due to vicious cycle of fluid seeping out/showering
but know this will also slow down healing as my body not having time to repair.
I’m hoping antibiotics kick in today.

You have my sympathy mumma10 you are right it is a vicious cycle

I found resting, if you can, no underwear and I stopped putting all the creams and stuff on and this seemed to help them.

For me, after a while, the creams seemed to be less effective Sad

So i drank lots of water, ate light meals and it has helped.

Nasty things and soooo debilitating, sending you Flowers

Thank you @cantheydothisreally

ive since stopped any product on area, I’ve just got loose shorts on.

im using cotton squares to try and soak up any infective fluid, so not to get on my skin which for past few hours seems to be working.

sorry if anyone reading and thinking TMI

It’s totally ruined the past 2 weeks plus my 30th birthday coming up all plans have to be postponed. 😢

You have all my sympathy - been there, and all that.

I was admitted for an anal stretch under general anaesthetic. The pain stopped straight away and the thrombosed piles subsided.

Try sudocrem. It may not clear them but certainly relieves the itching!

@lifecanbehardattimes thank you for advice, did you use it on them or surrounding skin?

It was some years ago and it was done very quickly - within days - and the problem was resolved instantly.

Glad it helped you @Mischance

I've had to speak to GP as swelling got worse, it’s in my notes that it’s a perianal abscess.🤢

I was told if continues getting worse or fever straight to A&E any time of day/night as will probably need draining.
They are hoping antibiotics kick in soon. 🤞🏽

@Mumma10 I've had a flare up for 6 weeks, referred by GP but was in too much pain so went to a private colorectal clinic in Marylebone London. Actually on my way home now, removal of an external that was the size of a kidney bean. Have no idea what the next few days will bring (still numb, 3 stitches)but already more comfortable sitting down and moving around. Procedure was bearable and I am a total wuss.
Would recommend to anyone get treated privately if you are able (I know it's not an option for everyone) under local anaesthetic, I paid £500 again, please don't bash me, i am a single parent and this is a chunk of my minimal savings but i can already note it was worth it. Hope you get some resolution soon OP.x
