Do anti-biotics make eczema worse?

DS2 has been prescibed Amoxycillin for the first time, he has never had anti-biotics before.

He took it 3 times yesterday and got up this morning with eczema all around his neck which I attributed to him wearing dads old football scarf yesterday, however it has been creeping over his body all day and he is in more discomfort from the eczema than his original tooth abcess.

Any advice welcome.

All my 3 have eczema and have had amoxycillin at times, and i have never noticed it made the eczema worse. But they are all so different in what effects them aren't they ? Maybe check with your doctor, in case it is allergic reaction to the anti biotics. Might be good to know for next time.

or it could be what my DD1 has - every time she is run down, her excema either got worse (when she was younger) or comes back (now she is older and rarely gets it). I'm assuming your DS is under the weather at the moment hence the ABs

I had Amoxycillin for a chest infection and it made my eczema horrendous - my GP told me it was a known AB for showing first symptons of a penicillin allergy. You should speak to GP ASAP - if I were you I would give no more Amoxy until you have done so. Just on the basis of my one reaction my medical records have been marked Allergic to Penicillin

By the way my rash sterted round my neck and spread down my back and chest. But I do have sibling and a grandparent with bad penicillin allergy.

Ds1 has just finished a course of Penicillin V for tonsillitis and his face has flared up all around his mouth/nose area....
antibiotics finished yesterday and already the eczema is getting better.

Thank you all.

I will take him to the GP tomorrow and have given him a spoonful of anti-histamine.

He is sleeping soundly but has taken his PJs off.

no probs with amoxycillin, but there was another anti-b that ds had a reaction to - his eczema flared badly too. Can you ask for a different anti-b?
