How to spot asthma?

My 11 month old has just recovered from croup but still has a lingering dry cough - she has a couple of coughing fits each night but infrequently during the day.
She has eczema and egg and lentil allergies so Im concious that she's likely to have asthma too. She doesn't seem to be wheezy.
Does this sound like asthma? Or am I being an overly worrying mum!

The doctor told me that you can't really diagnose asthma in a very young child. dd was about 2 at the time.

How long has she had the coughing fits for?
As said above, diagnoses doesn't occur until children are around 21/2 or 3.
Personally, I found my dc both got irritable coughs due to teething - hopefully it is only that.
Allergy wise, asthma is more associated with dairy intolerance than egg/lentil.
Do you have a family history of asthma?
Sorry if I am being nosey- I have asthma as does my father and a couple of nephews so it's a long standing family topic!

Consultant said that DD has a 50% increase chance in DD having asthma due to have an egg allergy but it can't be diagnosed until much later.

thanks for all comments. Manchita - neither me nor husband nor our parents have any allergies - (and I breastfed to 9 months) so all a bit mystifying where its from.
She is teething so fingers crossed could be that.....
