Weaning advice needed as DH has salmon / shellfish allergy

We started weaning ds a couple of weeks ago when he turned 6 months and we want to increase his range of tastes.

However, DH has an epipen after reacting to salmon (he ate it), trout (I was steaming it for myself and he was in the house), has never had the inclination to try shellfish so we aren't going to risk it, and now gets urticaria with E223 (no more Bulmers cider for him).

DH can eat cod and prawns without problem, but what do we do with regard to ds? I have mild asthma and did have mild eczema as a child, so any advice from the mumsnet experts would be gratefully received.

He can't have shellfish until he's 2 anyway.

I'm not an allergy expert, but (I think) Kerrymum is - her children have food allergies, as do many mn children, unfortunately.

Your gp or HV might be able to advise you too.

Personally, I'd wait a few months and then try a bit of cod. But you may be advised to avoid all fish by someone who knows more than me.

Has your dh had his allergy investigated? Any drs he spoke with then might be able to advise.

He hasn't been formally investigated for the salmon - red swollen face and throat, urticaria and trouble breathing the last time he had salmon / trout has lead him to not be too keen for a challenge! This was something that happened in his 30's, prior to that he had ben fine with salmon, but it wasn't something he felt inclined to eat anyway so he thinks it was his body's way of steering him away from what wasn't good for him (can't think what his excuse is for sprouts, broccoli etc).
