Lactose Intolerant 5 month old now with strange hoarse voice

DS 2, 5 months, had 3rd set of jabs 2 weeks ago and has been out of sorts since. Developed cold like symptoms ( runny nose, hoarse voice). He has also started to be very fussy at feeding time ( FF) and keeps pulling away from his bottle. He has started to be sick a bit as well which he never used to do.The strangest thing though is that he has developed an incredibly hoarse voice - it is worst in the evenings when it is accompanied by a strange cooing/almost talking noise. He makes an 'O' shape with his mouth and literally 'coos' but it is quite a strange noise and only happens in the evenings. he is harder to settle in the evenings for sleep ( used to be able to swaddle him and put him straight down but now seems to hate swaddling) ans is waking more in the night. Anyone any idea of what is going on ??!

It's possibly croup (child version of laryngitis) but you could take him to the Drs and see what they say? Does he have a temperature at all?

mousemole · 28/11/2007 12:16

no, no temperature and no sign of a cough.
Can you have croup without the cough ?

sounds like croup. Croup is more of a barking sound.

whooping cough - they don't recognise it if the child has been vaccinated because they don't always whoop. Or reflux.

Howdydoody · 28/11/2007 22:06

is his tongue slightly dark/blackish towards the back

Hi Howdydoody,no dark patch today but I noticed there was a couple of weeks ago which I thought was strange as we hadn't started him on food then. What is it ?

DD had this and developed a husky voice and cough around 9 months old. She was then diagnosed with asthma but am sure the HV said the dark tongue could of been thrush - tho it was never really sorted out.

Howdydoody · 29/11/2007 12:53

oh and she was lactose intolerant and on soya milk so i always wondered if it was linked somehow

mousemole · 29/11/2007 15:52

Howdydoody - I wondered if he had some kind of thrush. My gut tells me it is all linked to the LI so I am keen to get the solids increased and the milk decreased. ( even though he is on neocate he still doesn't get on well with milk)
