Cows milk elimination and speed of improvement

Hi all

My 7 week old baby presents with severe reflux and colic and has been on medication (gaviscon/ omeprazole) for several weeks with only some improvement. I was advised to try a dairy free diet, which I am doing. I’m aware it can take 2-3 weeks to leave my system, however within 2 days I noticed a different baby; less crying and lovely content awake periods. Has anyone else experienced this/ a response to removing dairy so quickly? Can it really be the change in diet that’s helped so quickly?

I’ve also read that soya protein is similar to cows milk protein, but I haven’t formally been told to remove this from my diet as well. Should I also be eliminating this?

Thank you

Yes, it was only a few days for my DD.

We also found a soya issue, she reacted very strongly (once free of milk) to me eating tofu, and soya mince. There seems to be a high coincidence of it with CMPA.

Has your GP referred you to a paediatric dietician for some help?

Yes, Big improvement after a couple of days and then a couple of weeks to fully settle down (foamy nappies and vomiting to stop fully).

I’ve cut out milk, eggs and soya with with my 7week DD2, starting when she was about 10 days old. Recognised the signs after having DD1 7 years ago with CMPA on lots of medication for reflux just like yours.

My little DD2 was like a different baby after a couple of days - happy, settled and sleeping well. Such a relief to see them more comfortable, though I’ve found cutting all 3 from my diet is much more restrictive and harder to manage when out and about. I have to cook everything from scratch, and really miss cake.

When I stopped eating dairy I felt much better after a couple of days. By 2 weeks I felt sort of new and sparkly. Not sure how else to describe it Smile
