Breastfeeding issue

Hi All

My 7 week old in the last 24- 48 hours has refused to take the right breast, he gets really quite hysterical and pushes back. He will feed off the left breast with no fuss.

He’s quite a hungry baby and often feeds off both breasts each feed in the day, but doesn’t need as much at night, feeding just off alternate breasts. The right breast is normally the fuller of the two.

I can hand and pump express from it, and this morning pump expressed 90ml quite easily, so it is producing milk. It is not hot or red or painful for me or anything, it feels quite normal. I’ve tried expressing and offering the breast then, but he won’t take it. I’ve tried putting the expressed milk in a bottle and offering, but he won’t take that either (he has previously taken a bottle so it isn’t an issue with the bottle)

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thank you

Have you tried the rugby ball hold on the side he's not keen on?google it, but essentially you hold him under your arm so he's lying on the same side as he does when you hold him 'normally' on the other breast

@Zarene thank you! He has just latched fine like that… so I wonder why he is sore lying on his left side 🤔

Could be ear ache? Could be that he needs to move slightly further along from the breast as he's grown since birth but mums often hold baby in exactly the same place to feed. If he can't open his lower jaw he can't latch. Try baby straddling your leg and plunging onto the breast while you are sat up or slightly leaning back.
