Delayed allergic rash to Nitrofurantoin (macrobid) now on cephalexin and worried it will happen again

So I was on Macrobid for a UTI and 3 days after finishing I came out in the most intense itchy hives. With piriton they vanished within 24 hours.

I've been marked as allergic to that and now been given cephalexin as uti still there.

I'm on day 3 and so scared this will happen again when I finish in 4 days time.

I know it's irrational but have health anxiety and the fear of an allergic rash which could be worse is really panicking me

My Mum is allergic to penicillin and several antibiotics - gets a rash. But sometimes she needs one of the ones she is allergic to. She has found that if she takes antihisitimines at the same time she is fine. The GP seems happy with this approach.

Nitrofurantoin is an entirely different type of antibiotic to cephalexin - so just because you are allergic to nitrofurantoin there is no reason you should be allergic to cephalexin.
