Sun cream allergy

Pam0077 · 30/05/2021 22:06

My ds is 6 and is far skinned with red hair. I’ve tried various sun creams and found he has a reaction to Nivea abc then more recently he has developed a heat rash/itching with Soltan which I thought was odd given its hypoallergenic but he has been itching loads tonight. What else can I try? I thought maybe Piz Buin Allergy?

My allergy doc recommended Altruist products.

happytoday73 · 31/05/2021 20:36

Ultrasun works for me

firsttimekat · 31/05/2021 20:37

After a recommendation from a friend we use Delph sun cream for DS who has allergies/eczema it's the only one we've found that he can tolerate.

SpanielPlusToddler · 31/05/2021 20:38

My doctor recommended sunsense sensitive sunscreen for my son. He’s allergic to all the usual brands, but this one was fine.

SpanielPlusToddler · 31/05/2021 20:39

and it doesn’t aggravate his eczema either.

GuyFawkesDay · 31/05/2021 20:40

Sunsense sensitive or Green People organic kids or moogoo

All are mineral. Usually if they're sensitive to chemical sunscreens all will set them off. I was sensitive, now I'm hugely allergic to all chemical sunscreens.

roguetomato · 31/05/2021 20:41

My ds use Curel uv lotion.

sparklecrazy · 31/05/2021 20:48

Another vote for Ultrasun. It's fab stuff, pricey but worth it.

Gothichouse40 · 31/05/2021 20:54

Childsfarm is good. My grandchild has eczema and has no bother with this suncream. Boots, Superdrug sell it, or you can buy direct from their website. I use the moisturiser.

Lillygarden55 · 31/05/2021 20:56

I had lots of reactions from lots of sun teams. Piz Buin allergy is amazing and I’d recommend it to anyone.

Lillygarden55 · 31/05/2021 20:57

Typo creams not teams🙈

stevalnamechanger · 31/05/2021 21:01

Try altruist

Oh man, this brings back awful memories. DD was four when she became allergic to sun cream. We think it was triggered by using the previous year's leftovers. I'm always careful now not to use old stuff.
Anyway, after trying EVERYTHING recommended, incl prescription stuff like E45, organic stuff, green people, you name it, I just gave up. We just made sure she wore light cotton tops and hats. We just kept her out of the sun between 11am and 4pm etc.
Now she's 22, she can tolerate ONE, and still only one. If I've done my cream then do hers, she still flares up.

Good luck OP.

PickAChew · 31/05/2021 21:12

Eucerin. It's the only one I've used in the last 15 years that I haven't reacted to.

Mugsen · 31/05/2021 21:18

The Childs Farm one from the baby section works well for us. I can't use Nivea or Amber Solaire.

Lnix · 31/05/2021 21:29

Hey OP! I have no advice but following with interest as my red headed, fair skinned DD seemed to have a reaction (only in her face/cheeks) to the sun cream I used yesterday. Nasty heat rash, warm to touch and itchy. Piraton helped the itch but still red with little bumps. Hasn't improved much as yet. Have you managed to improve your DS's heat rash?

PenguinLove1 · 31/05/2021 21:38

My son is allergic to any that have the white cream type consistency but the fine mist spray is fine- i buy the nivea cool n protect and he is fine with that and its brilliant.

For extremely sensitive skin then use La Roche Posay, its not cheap but very good

MissingTheMoonlight · 31/05/2021 23:34

Another vote for Childs Farm. My son has severe eczema and allergies and doesn't react to this

INeedNewShoes · 31/05/2021 23:37

The best I've found with my very sensitive skin is Ultrasun.

BunnyRuddington · 01/06/2021 08:57

My DS is massively allergic to sunscreen but is fine with all the ones from Lidl and the Malibu factor 50 spray.
