Pregnant with nut allergy?

I am 5 weeks pregnant and have a serious nut allergy. Now if i had a reaction causing breathing difficulties etc i would use ny epi-pen as i'm not much good dead but....when i have a milder or start of one i used to take piriton but cannot take during pregnancy. Had moderate reation on fri and scared myself silly, are there any anti-histamines that are safe? Would only take if i felt my reaction was geting severe. Can't see G.P till next week and pharmacy was not very helpful!

By the way have avoided nuts but think it was to a cream used on one of the babies i care for, as started after i changed his nappy

who has told you not to take piriton? Other mumsnetters have been told its OK to take piriton in pregnancy for hay fever or itching and obviously this is a bit more important. If you are dead the baby will be too. Newer antihistamines are of more concern but I thought piriton was considered fairly safe? Offical advice here

is a standard warning about not having been tested in pregnant women. If there was a known risk they would have to declare it on that data sheet.

The nappy cream needs to be changed to avoid a risk of the baby developing nut allergy (as well as to protect you)!

Did you know that probiotics in late pregnancy and when breastfeeding are believed to reduce the risk of eczema and maybe allergies?

I know it sound strange but having come across suggestions that dehydration makes allergies worse I'm making sure my nut allergic child is well hydrated.

I'd echo Tatt's advice. I'm not allergic to nuts but get really bad hayfever that then triggers my asthma. Am currently 6 mo pregnant and took low doses of piriton when necessary this summer to control hayfever.

Doctor said this was fine - better than constant use of steroid inhaler.

Obviously there is never a 100% guarentee re drugs and pregnancy but piritons been around a long time by now so I was confident that any real probs would have been spotted.

i am 24wks preg with baby no 4, and i have taken piriton throughout all four pregnancies, i have sevre eczma and allergies and life would be a nightmare if i didnt take it. i was told my my consultant dermatologist that piriton is the one that they recomend as safe during pregnancy
