Delayed amoxicillin allergy?

Hi there,
I was prescribed 10 days worth of Amoxicillin for a throat infection.
I finished the last tablets on the Sunday, having had no problems at all.
Then on the Monday night / Tuesday morning I woke up itching my ears, then neck and scalp.
Thought not much of it, went to work. As the day progressed, I started developing very red rash on neck, by the end of the day it had started all over my body. Rang docs and was prescribed Fexofenadine antihistamine to collect the next day.
That night I woke scratching like a madwoman , my scalp and ears and all over my body. Behind ears all swollen , red hot and itchy. Rang doctors and was just told to take antihistamine and would hopefully help. Got worse and the next day I woke up, my eyes were swollen and hives all over body. Intense itching nonstop.
I was told was an allergic reaction.
Then in the morning I noticed my forehead swelling! Like a big egg lump ( slightly flatter) spreading down towards my eyes. Now my whole body was literally itching and burning.
I was prescribed Prednisone and calmed down within a few hours. Left with bruising all over legs. I still have bit of itching. But no rash anymore.
Does anyone here have an experience with delayed penicillin allergy? I completely ruled penicillin out as the reaction came on a few days after stopping taking it. But cannot think what else it could be as haven’t changed anything as such.
Also, I’ve been prescribed 7 days steroids, would I be safe to come off them without taking the full course?
Can you go for an allergy test to determine whether it was penicillin that was causing it?
Many thanks in advance!!

An allergic reaction is usually to something you have had/eaten/taken before and have had no reaction to.

Ask the GP about the steroids rather than randoms on here!

Not as severe as yours but my DC1 came out in a horrendous looking rash about 10 days after taking amoxicillin, apparently it is a thing to have a delayed reaction.

Hi I’m so sorry for not getting back to you previously!
I have only just worked out how to read the replies!! 🙈
Thank you
My rash all cleared up now. I’m convinced was the amoxicillin. Ah yes banana monkey, I’m glad your little one is ok
It’s quite scary!
