Newly diagnosed with grade 3 hazelnut & peanut allergy. Waiting to see the specialist.
Can any one offer advice? Do you have an epi pen etc?
Doctor wasn’t very knowledgeable.

Thanks.

Was this after a reaction?

My young son tests positive to Hazelnut and other tree nuts but has never tried them. You can get a false positive Hazelnut test if there is cross reaction with Birch pollen. So, we plan on doing a food challenge.

We were given an epi pen by our private allergist because he tests positive to peanut and sesame.

Oh and by the way, the grade doesn't indicate the severity or the likelihood of Anaphylaxis. It indicates how likely you are to have a reaction, but this could be mild or severe.
Having said that, so far my son's worst reaction has been to Dairy and he is Grade 6 to this.

My dd has a peanut allergy. Yes, get an EpiPen. Avoid Chinese and Indian restaurants as apparently they are particularly risky re cross contamination. Read food labels obsessively. Was very alarming when dd was first diagnosed, but she is now 11 and so far we have been able to manage things fine.

@Lisa78Lemon
If I eat peach, nectarine or pear my lips swell up, itchy mouth and tongue.
With pumpkin if I touch the inside & seeds, my arms swell up up, lips & itchy mouth.

I only know about the nut allergies due to blood tests. I don’t eat nuts as I don’t like them. But eat things that have traces in them.

I'm not very familiar with it but is that Oral Allergy Syndrome?

Beach11 · 17/11/2020 18:09

@Lisa78Lemon that’s what I had assumed but do to pumpkin reaction just on touching it.

Hopefully will get my appointment soon with the specialist 🤞🏻.

Can any one recommend a private clinic for allergies? In Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, London area.

I'm a bit late to this but Dr Florentina A Dumitru at the lindo Wing was amazing at getting to the bottom of my allergies. highly recommend.

We use this app called Food Maestro. You add your allergens then you can scan bar codes and it comes up with happy or sad face. It has a itemised ingredients list that doesn't appear on labelling. In short I think it is wonderful.
