Paying for allergy tests - how much?

My DD has eczema and allergic rhinitis but the GP is keeping us on the same regime of emollients, steroid creams and anti-histamine meds. I'm asking for allergy testing to see if there is anything we can identify as a major allergen for her, but my GP seems to think this is pointless. We live in Notts. and I'm wondering how much it would cost to go privately and whether or not it is a painful procedure? DD is 4.5.

I have been looking at private consultants as my ds had a peanut reaction on sat and I thought it might be difficult to get a referal from my gp. (it wasn't, went in monday and was refered straight away)

I found this man in derby who sounds 'non-dodgy' but I have no personal experiance. The initial consultaion is £150. I have no idea how this compares to others.

I guess you need a private dermatologist

I would expect it to cost about 100-150 quid for the consultation plus maybe 100-200 quid for tests
Usually they can do it with just blood tests

Hi my baby (8 months) was tested for allergies (skin prick tests) last week by his consultant. Doesn't hurt and instant results. I paid for myself to go privately in Tonbridge 3 years ago after a blood test showed I was allergic to everything! My GP gave me her details and suggested I pay to get a quick answer as I wanted to start a family.£200 for consultation, test and report. I have no allergies apart from my known hay fever. So don't go on blood tests alone they are really inaccurate. Both baby and I have intolerances: me to wheat him to protein in cows milk. Baby also had continous cold symptons when I gave him dairy and started getting eczema. He is breast fed. Perhaps youshould consider cutting down the milk, butter and yohurt for a couple of weeks to see if she improves. If she does get GP or HV to refer you to Dietician for advice on what to feed her instead. Hope this helps, Good luck
