Hi, starting a new thread since I'm very confused and second guessing myself.

These are 5 week old ds symptoms since birth

Excessive crying within minutes of finishing his bottle, arching back, straining, turning red, bringing up milk even hours after last feed despite being burped a lot (every 1-2 oz while feeding, after, and kept upright for half an hour if not more), straining to pass gas. Before he would poop a couple of times a day normal seedy poo (straining a lot though) but for the last week he barely poops once a day very soft poo and even more straining all day. He sounds mucousy and sometimes when he breathes it sounds like snoring. He hates laying down, gets the hiccups after every feed which seems painful. Can only sleep on us but I think it's cause we hold him upright.
Acidic smell of spit up and nappies. Very smelly gas. Very light eczema.

I'm pretty sure it's cmpa but the pharmacist and dh think it's not and I will mess with ds development if I give him hydrolized milk.
Gp says it's a milk problem but no help other than that. Trying to get referred to pediatrics.

Tried lactose free suggested by pharmacist but bubba seems getting worse.
What do you think? ☹️

Hi Kaceywd. I've just come on to find information on possible CMPA and have seen your post. The symptoms you spoke about are identical to what I'm experiencing with my 8 week old son. He was put on an extensively hydrolysed formula to treat a possible CMPA a week ago as well as Omeprazole for reflux. He seems a little more settled at times but he still struggles with stomach pain and is a very sicky baby.

Did you ever get any answers and have things improved for your baby now?

Thanks.

Hey @TashaHC aw I'm sorry to hear you're going through the same
Yes I did but I had to push A LOT to get amino acid formula. Check the formula prescription guidelines for your area so you know what to ask for at the Gp's. Ultimately amino acid milk helped a lot but his reflux only got better at around 6 months. He's 9 months now and has a lot of allergies so be prepared for that as well (many cmpa babies have other allergies as well). What also helped a lot is Dr Brown's bottles and winding him CONSTANTLY (still do)
I hope things get better for you and let me know if you have any more questions!

Thanks!! That's really useful. We are already using Dr Brown bottles and burping. I think the extensively hydrolysed formula has helped him a bit as he's a little more settled and the pain has reduced but he still struggles to pass wind and poo even though with the new formula his poo is pretty much liquid. He pukes a lot more too. I'll mention the amino acid milk to the GP, thanks. I hope it doesn't smell as bad as the hydrolysed formula does 😂 It stinks!! That's useful to know about the other allergies so that we can be prepared for that. I'm glad things got a little easier for your little one (and you!) over time 😊

Oh it smells even worse! Also my ds wouldn't drink it warm only room temp. He's on nutramigen puramino and the difference was very big I hope it's the same for you! Holding him upright helped a lot and not feeding to sleep. Also no thickeners or Meds since they made him even worse. We just rode it out basically.. His sleep is still really bad and he wakes ofter cause of trapped gas. Also ask your hv when you can start giving your bub vitamins because if he's like mine he won't wean easily (we're still on purees and won't eat more than twice a day)

Oh no!! The smell is so bad already! But if it makes them better it's worth it. So glad you found a solution! Thanks for all the advice and sharing your experience 😊

I think my LO may have CMPA or sn intolerance. Why did they think switching to hydrolysed milk would mess with development? @Kaceywd

Kaceywd · 03/07/2021 18:50

@Hijokp the pharmacist thinks that it would make my ds develop more allergies, but that's the same person that told me that antidepressants would make me an addict so yeah he's not our pharmacist anymore. My ds has a few more intolerances (banana, strawberry and coconut) but he's so much better with amino acid formula even if he was right it's totally worth it
