People with coeliac disease, did you have symptoms like peri menopause?

I had a phone appointment with my GP as my IBS symptoms are getting worse, also I have started getting itchy, blistering rash.

GP asked do I suffer from
Night sweats/hot flushes
Joint pain and swelling
Brain fog/bad memory
Headaches
Fatigue

As well as pain and gastro symptoms. I'd presumed the above were all peri menopause symptoms. Can anyone with coeliac disease tell me if they suffered with these symptoms and they got better with a gluten free diet?

Hi @niceupthedance - sorry I can't help you specifically, but my two friends who were recently diagnosed with coeliac disease both had IBS symptoms, joint pain and fatigue too. They were only early 30s though so didn't suspect peri menopause anyway.

There is a quiz you can do which might help: isitcoeliacdisease.org.uk

Interesting though as I'd assumed I was peri menopausal due to many of the symptoms you mentioned, and only suspected gluten after a weekend eating bread and pasta made everything far worse... I may try going gluten free for a while to see if it helps! Have you tried it before?

Thank you for your response, well I have done the 'cut back on bread and pasta' thing before but never all gluten. Going to give it a go now for 30 days and see if it helps. I've had the blood test now but it won't be back for three weeks so I should know if it's helped by then. So weird that the symptoms can be similar to peri meno.

Yup I got dizzy and faint, sweats, could barely function. Basically felt like a bad hangover 24 hours a day and slept for most of the time I wasn’t at work. And the worst nausea

niceupthedance hope you don't mind me coming on your thread, however, I am 48 and have been having ibs type symptoms for several months. Where did you to with your issues?
