My DD is 8wks old she is FF and after having trouble since birth with excessive wind, stomach pains and diarrohea(often green in colour and sometimes up to 10 times per day) My GP queried whether she is lactose intolerant due to this and the fact her weight was lower than expected also. She suggested we try SMA LF which she has been on for the last 5 days. She seems happier on the whole her poos have dropped to approx 5 per day now sometimes less and are thicker and and a normal colour. She does however seem to be trying to poo as if it is now a little difficult for her. Has anybody any advice on using this formula? Is this change in her normal? Is she lactose intolerant?

you need to ask your GP to refer you to the paediatric dietician.

the change in stools could just be because she is now on the formula, some babies get a bit constipated when they change formulas.

having said that, my ds1 was lactose intolerant, and when we went dairy free the diarrohea gradually ceased.

Hi Clubby
My DS is cows milk protien intollerant, he had bad wind, would really strain to poo, sometimes green, sometimes yellow (like a korma sorry if TMI)and would cry alot an hour after feeding he was also pooing 5-10 times a day, at 5 weeks i tried him on formula and within 48 hours he bleed from his bottom. I'm not trying to scare you DS is 18 months now and despite his alergy he is very healthy. My point is try the LF formula but if you still feel your DD isn't well then push for a referal, unfortunalty there is no "test" for cows milk protein intollerance a good HV will have all the info.
We had to cut out dairy, soya and eggs, we have now introduced soya but eggs still cause problems, back to the ped in Oct.
Good luck

Thanks for your advice my GP is very good and has made an appointment to see us again in a week (2 weeks after changing to LF). She said she would weigh her and see if she had improved or if we needed anything further doing. Is my DD not too young to see the paed dietician? Is that not only necessary when weaning starts??
