Egg Allergy in 10 month old

Wondered if anyone could give advice on this?

We first gave DS egg at 7 months and he reacted badly to it. Mainly came out in hives/wheezing and was in discomfort. GP arranged blood test who confirmed allergy (IgE was 6.6 if that means anything). Allergy nurse who took his blood sample mentioned that we would need to start 'egg ladder' ASAP to reintroduce it. However GP says give no egg ingredients at all until we have seen an allergy specialist/paediatrician. Been waiting 8 weeks but GP followed up and it will be still be another 7 months for a hospital appointment as they have a long waiting list.

Is it ok to not start the 'egg ladder' until after we have seen specialist when DS is around 17 months?

Also, if we didn't want to wait 7 months is there any type of service we could pay for to see a specialist or get advice sooner?
