Crapping myself over sudden allergy

Vegasprincess89 · 17/05/2019 18:17

Ok so after crapping my pants thinking my 2 year old is about to die, turns out it's 'just' an allergy. Dr said if he was a betting man he'd back tomatoes (was eating them at the time) in for allergy testing on Tuesday, in the mean time I flatly refuse to feed him just incase 🙈 so my question is, anyone been through this before??? Is there any other foods linked to tomatoes we should avoid until the tests come back? I googled it but it wasn't helpful 🤦 he's 2 1/2 and bloody loves cherry tomatoes 😩 can they really become allergic just like that??

What were his symptoms?

Vegasprincess89 · 17/05/2019 21:55

Huge rash across his cheeks, chin and neck, very very red. Then on his chest and tummy but more prickly then red, though it did go blotchy. And then he had a bad tummy in the drs office 🙈

How quickly and over what length of time did the reaction occur? Did you give piriton to help?

dementedpixie · 17/05/2019 22:05

The whole rash thing also sounds like slapped cheek but depends how quickly it came on

Sorry for late reply! Definitely allergy, hospital confirmed it. They said give him the food again and see what happens??

I doubt he has become allergic to them overnight, based on my nonexistent knowledge of allergies. What else had he ingested?

Allergies certainly can develop suddenly. A friend of mine developed a serious allergy to shellfish after a lengthy period of stress when her baby daughter was very ill. One of my DC developed an (anaphylactic) allergy to fish at age 6 when he’d eaten loads of it as a toddler. It seems to be yet another wonderful aspect of food allergies...
