Pine nuts/nuts

My daughter has anaphylaxis. She’s needed epipens a few times and also uses nebulised adrenaline at home. One of her allergies are peanuts and tree nuts.

She’s desperate for pesto. I don’t mind making it. But first off I’m wondering if pine nuts are a nut?? It says online they’re a seed however says to avoid them as tree nuts!! So conflicting!!

Has anyone had any clearer info given to them?

We’ve found a pesto free from cashews, but contains pine nuts!!

Pine nuts are often in ice creams and cakes so unless you are checking for them in ingredients she may well have eaten them. Personally, I avoided them when I had to cook for somebody with a nut allergy as they aren't essential.
