Can I 'demand' a referral to the allergy paediatrician?

I have an appt for DS with the community paediatrician but I think this is the wrong person for the problem we have.

I have spoken to a friend who says our local hospital does allergy testing (which my GP led me to believe it doesn't).

I am getting so mad with the NHS system not believing we having an issue here, in fact I'm irate at the moment lol

If I go and 'demand' an appt to they have to refer me or are they just going to laugh at me like last time I went?

Thank you and sorry for all the questions, just trying to get DS sorted out!

Why not see the community paediatrician and 'demand' they refer you if you're not happy with their reply.
If not go back to your GP and ask for referral.

SIL just did this with her DS after he had a horrid reaction to egg (swollen face, etc etc). She got a referrel straight away so I think you can demand.

I demanded a ref to the allergy consultant but it turned out the wait was 3x as long as for general paediatrics. Settled for general paeds who did allergy testing and everything. They were great. You might find the community paed can do everything you want in less time.

Thank you will wait for the community paed hopefully he can do what we need!

if you are really worried why dont you see a ped privatly? dd has no of probs and we would have waited months if we hadnt paid, most consultations between £150 -£300, took the stress out of waiting.

we only were referred to the paediatrician but she was fantastic. they did skin prick tests and RAST tests on DD2. got tons of advice and reassurance too.

she dealt with the issues we had - if they had been more severe / if we had needed an epipen then we would have been referred on to the allergy paed. I guess that is the order they go in.
