Don't you hate it when your child can't do stuff because of the allergies

Sorry, in a moaney mood again.

DS's friends were supposed to go to a playground after nursery but due to bad weather, they're going to an indoor play area after nursery today. DS can't go otherwise he ends up having hives and asthma.

Hate it when he's left out because of the allergies. Oh well, maybe he'll end up a stronger personality because of all his ailments.

Oh Gwu, that's rotten for him. Does it make any difference if he has piriton before he goes?

dd1 always get wheezey in these palces, so we give her a dose of piriton, and two blue puffs. also take inhaler with us. seems to work so far.

i make her use her inhaler before any exwercise now.

I'm sure that him being 'left out ' wasn't intentional. have you tried exlaining the problem to the parents ?

I know he wasn't left out intentionally but it still makes ME feel cr*p. DS's quite happy at home TBH after a morning at nursery but I feel bad. Ha,ha, maybe the mums didn't want me to come along. No, we don't know them well - one of them offered to make an omlette for the kids. Very nice and sweet of her but giving ds bleach to drink would be less damaging

His known food allergens are many but the main ones are milk and egg i.e. even touching something that has had milk or egg on it causes a skin flare up. Another allergen that was >100 on the RAST test is grass pollen. We give him antihistamines (Loratidine)and a brown inhaler every day before nursery to keep his reactions at bay. I guess I could give him another antihistamine if he'd really wanted to go (but not 2.5 ml Piriton as that's ineffective and more is not adviseable according to medics, Zirtek and Cetirizine are useless too which leaves 7.5 ml of Ucerax which makes him sleepy). Docs think he needs an epipen for his milk and egg allergy but I'm hoping for alternatives.

For some reason, it's indoor play areas that affect his skin and breathing. Outdoor play areas are generally ok, unless ds touches some spilt ice cream/equivalent or it's a hot humid day.

When will it get better?

Gwu - there isn't really any alternative to epipens. If the docs suggest it, i would definitely get them.

It is the sort of thing you must have, but hope never to use. xx

My eldest suffers from very bad hayfever and last summer a group of us went for a picnic , within half an hour I had to bring him home ven though he had been dosed up with anit- histamine.

Luckily this year due to the cooler weather and rain ( as it pours down here ! it hasn't been so bad.

Agree that it is no fun when they can't join in with their friends.

Gwu, I feel for you, I really do. I find it hard with my ds severe peanut allergy but gosh you have it hard. I know my ds is not allergic to what your dc is but it is hard enough with his allergy & him not being able to do or get invlved with some things his peers or friends do. I must say majority of the time though my ds can get involved but I do understand to a certain extent what you go through.

I really feel for you too! My ds2 never gets invited to parties at places like indoor play areas or even restaurants and he is allergic to so many things (milk, soya, eggs, all nuts and wheat)
