Baby allergic to melon?? Help

I’ve been introducing my 6 month old to solids for the past few weeks. We gave him some melon this evening (honeydew and cantaloupe) and when I bathed him I noticed a few hives (I think) on his back - raised white bumps surrounded by red. Maybe 4 or 5 of them. Much milder than any of the images I’ve seen online when googling hives! Neither DH nor I have any food allergies and I wasn’t really expecting melon to be an allergenic food. Now feeling really worried I didn’t spot it sooner. He seems fine in himself and is now asleep.

I will book a GP appointment ASAP but just wondered if anyone else’s child has this allergy, and if so, are they allergic to anything else? Is he likely to outgrow this?

Melon, kiwi and strawberry all have the same enzyme.. so if melon is a trigger be careful with kiwi and strawberry.

Thanks @rubyslippers7780. He’s had lots of strawberries and hasn’t reacted - does that mean it’s less likely to be the melon?

Also is it likely that a skin reaction would be the only thing that happens? Or is he likely to have other symptoms too?

It depends. My h is allergic but the strength of reaction varies.. with melon near the skin of the fruit rather than the really fleshy middle he can really react but kiwi the whole thing bothers him..rash, tongue swelling ( but not life threatening just irritated ).. please get your wee one to a gp to check. Reaction is pretty instant so not like he eats then 30 mins later is bothered...

Hi, I know this was posted a couple months ago but yes my dd is allergic to melon. When she was little she was very upset after eating some and had hives appear on her cheek. We gave antihistamines quite quickly to settle it as she was a very allergy prone child. Now grown up she has been 're tested and melon still comes up on skin prick tests as positive.
