Problems with Pizza

I seem to have developed a problem eating pizza in the past months. Whenever I eat pizza, whether it's from the local pizza place or shop bought frozen pizza, shortly after I get really bad stomach cramps (which feel like giving birth all over again) and they don't stop until I've had several poos, which start solid and then go runny (sorry for the TMI).

I don't think it's gluten intolerance as I can happily eat any bread and buns. I also don't think it's dairy related, as I can eat cheese and have any milk products in general without problem. I've tried pizza with different toppings to see if it might be jalapenos, mushrooms, pepperoni, and plain cheese etc. but it's not topping related as no matter what is on top, it happens. Whatever it is, it is only set off by pizza, I assume something in the dough.

So, any ideas? It's started suddenly a few months ago. What could it be? I know this is more of a first world problem as I could just cut out pizza, but it's one of my favourites, so would like to get to the bottom of it.

Have you tried making your own dough?

Also, any issues with bread because the ingredients should basically be the same?

No, not tried my own.

No problems with bread / buns / croissants... anything like that. Only pizza, that's why I'm confused on what's going on.

I had the same for a while.
I even tried going gluten free just in case.
I worked out that it was the fat not the gluten. Was eating pretty healthily all week and then a huge surge of fat on a Friday night affected me.

Trying looking up IBS and FODMAPs and see if any of it rings true for you. This is a good place to start. A couple of possible culprits spring to mind but you'd need to look at the ingredient list, I have FODMAP sensitivities and pizza is tricky as it has a fair few ingredients in the base, the tomato sauce and the toppings. Garlic is a big trigger for me, but I also have issues with some sweeteners used in pizza bases, milk in the base or if there is mozzarella cheese (hard cheese are fine), onions, mushrooms and the wheat in the base is only OK up to a fairly small amount (if the sauce/toppings are good I can usually eat a slice or two of pizza but no more than that).

Thanks both, really good advice.

I can rule a few things out straight way:

Fat - I'm not very healthy and have other fatty meals which are fine, so don't think that's it.

Garlic - can't be, as it's in many of my meals

Sweeteners - will have to try this one out, never have it otherwise

Milk - no problems drinking it

Mozarella - haven't had it 'raw' for ages, so will try a mozarella / tomato salad in the next days and see if anything is triggered

Onions and mushrooms - have them frequently with no effects

To definitely exclude gluten and fat I'm having burgers and deep fat fried chips tonight (yay!). I assume I'll be fine, but just want to make sure and indulge

Will try mozarella and sweeteners next week.

Any other possibilities if these come back negative?

Lots of people are allergic to tomatoes.. maybe it’s an overload
