Potentially stupid question for asthmatics using beconase

I'm an asthmatic and currently take seretide (both a preventative and long term reliever) regularly and ventolin as required (fortunately very rarely these days).

My hayfever has been playing up this year, particularly with nasal symptoms so I picked up some beconase this morning (and doesn't that taste gross when it trickles through!) anyway, just noticed that it's in the corticosteroid family, and obviously I'm already on those for asthma medications. I wasn't asked at the pharmacy if I was on anything else and there's no warning labels on the box or bottle of conflicts.

I'm assuming that given a high proportion of asthmatics also get hayfever that there's no conflict here? Anyone know for sure (say a GP has prescribed both for them?)

Phoned pharmacist in the end and they said it was okay, but to make sure that I mention it to my GP next time I see them (so that'll be sometime in 2030 then, eh?)

I am asthmatic - on Ventolin and becotide - and also use Beconase for rhinitis/hayfever. I think it is the same as becotide, just used nasally.

ungratefuldaughter · 06/06/2007 11:20

the active ingredient in becotide and beconase is a "soft" steroid which acts where it is supposed to and decomposes once it gets into bloodstream (was told this by someone who is a chemist at company which invented it) so there isn't really enough left in the body to really do harm as I was worried about DD

Thanks guys

I feel so much better today (3rd day of using)... just realised that I can actually smell again (and I hadn't really noticed my sense of smell was impared before).

Had a whopping headache for the last 2 days (as I think it was working its way through my sinuses rather than an actual side effect) but today it's gone and I feel human again.
