Likelyhood of DD becoming allergic to nickel?

DD is asking to have her ears pierced. She’s nearly 8, so I’m prepared to consider it.

However, I had my first piercings at 11, with a gun and 9 carat gold studs and developed a horrendous nickel allergy that has caused me issues ever since.

Anyone know the odds of the same happening to DD? No sign of any allergies so far, apart from penicillin, and she’s only had that once so don’t know if it’s a lifelong allergy or just a reaction to the first exposure.

Always intended that if she had a piercing it would be with a needle rather than a gun, but what would be the best sort of studs to use? Sterling silver? Titanium?

It’s a very common allergy, it runs in our family so may have a level of inheritance

When I had dds ears pierced many moons ago we had 18ct gold as silver can have other metals in

18ct gold still contains other metals though.

I can only wear pure silver or platinum now.

Hard to know what to do for the best. :(
