I understand there are a lot of different symptoms, and they vary from people to people, how long after eatin gluten would you experience a problem? Up to now, have been told I have IBS and diverticulitus, but now have different symptoms. Would like to hear from anyone who has it, exact symptoms, thank you.

In our family of 3 about 6 hours after ingesting even tiny amounts of gluten as it passes from the stomach to the duodenum we get horrific griping, sickness and toilet visiting

I also have dermatitis herpetiformis and even a wiff of gluten will cause an outbreak of blisters 48hours later

I should have clarified, dh is the skin form of coeliac disease

not all coeliacs suffer from it but if you had it, it would be obvious as it is intensely itchy

I have the antibodies and am waiting (and waiting, and waiting) to be told the results of my gastroscopy and biopsy.

As best I understand it, first, no two people have exactly the same symptoms and second, if, like me, you are only diagnosed/suspected late in life, your symptoms will be different from someone who has been gf for years and is then exposed to gluten. I've had an IBS diagnosis for about 25 years but I have celiac defects in my teeth, which formed around the age of 2 or 3.

I don't have the typical digestive symptoms. My main symptom is fatigue. In between having the blood test and my endoscopy I was more aware of what I was eating and noticed that about 90mins-2hours after eating gluten I would feel slumped and sleepy. Which explains why after eating toast for breakfast I would feel so zonked!! My immune system was working so hard I was exhausted.

I have also had dental problems since I was a child. Bouts of Anaemia. Low Vitamin D. Brain fog. And problems with numbness in my hands and feet. I also had a very rare skin thing (not hepiformis dep. something else) which cleared up when I went gluten free and was constantly getting ill and catching every cold going.

I'm newly diagnosed as coeliac and I'm taking careful note of symptoms and trigger foods. I've noticed it takes about 90 minutes or so for the main symptoms to start. Particularly dermatitis herpetiformis. Although I get wheezy pretty quickly after eating bread etc. I've got asthma.

I'm currently stuffing myself with gluten in advance of a gut biopsy. I hope this doesn't take too long because I'm really not well.
