CMPA baby - help with bottles

My baby has been ebf from birth now at 8 months I am ready to stop breastfeeding. My reasons don’t really matter but my concern is this...
My baby is allergic to cows milk and I have been told that a breastfed baby is unlikely to accept the prescribed formula due to taste, we could try the soya formula available in supermarkets but the NHS website is less than complimentary about it due to hormone levels which could affect the development of reproductive systems in little ones!
obviously I don’t want to use the soya after reading that bit can’t see what alternative there is - anyone been through this / got any suggestions?
Thank you

Hi,

I moved my daughter from EBM to prescription formula a few months back. We did have a day or so whereby she wasn't at all happy about it but she absolutely LOVES her formula now. Dietitians have made recommendations in the past to add a drop of alcohol-free vanilla essence or half a teaspoons of crusha/nesquik (I believe strawberry is dairy-free). Alternatively, you could express BM initially to introduce the actual bottle and then replace an oz at a time until baby takes to the new formula.

The effects of phyto-estrogen on reproductive health in the future have been disproven now, however there are similarities in protein structure between soya and dairy proteins so your CMPA baby could react to the soya also - our little girl does.

If you choose to go down the prescription formula route, ask for Aptimil Pepti first of all as this still contains lactose so the taste is nicer than Nutramigen for instance. If you need to move on from Aptimil Pepti, you'll often be asked to try a more hydrolised formula before being put onto an amino acid formula. I would suggest SMA Althera as again this has a slightly improved taste, and if you need to go whole hog onto amino acid formula then I'd request SMA Alfamino for the same reason.

I can't believe how familiar I've had to become with this all... Hmm
