can you give actimel to a 10 month baby

Not sure about the under ones, but we gave it to dd1 aged 1 following a urinary infection, and have done so ever since - she's now 3. She is noticably healthier than many toddlers despite her kidney condition and daily antibiotics - has never had tummy bugs. we add half a bottle to her mornib beaker of milk, and the rest to the evening one.

MUSA, I phoned the Danone helpline when DS2 was 9 months old to ask and they advised waiting until baby is over 12 months.

our dietician advised either live acidophilis culture or powdered, or live yoghurt, failing that yakult, but not actimel, no reason given though.

i have posted on your other thread...just wanted to add that acidophilus is now not recommended for children as it produces lactic acid which is difficult for them to digest and can cause trapped wind etc. babies and children do not have any/much acidophilus in their gut yet. hence my suggestion for baby bacteria powder. (there is a thread on this somewhere under allergies.)

look into bifidus from biocare it is recommonded over and above acidophillus for little ones but you will need to check with their helpline for the appropriate age to start use.

I am using bifidobacterium infantis powder by Biocare. I don't have the info infront of me but it is designed for infants. It's a powder that you mix with a little water then add to cold/cool food or into liquid. Ds is 8 mos now and I've been using it for 6 weeks as he has/had eczema. I'm sure it's been significant in helping his eczema.
