Second guessing myself...

Morning need some advice/sense check I think because it’s been so long that my LO has been unsettled with reflux and potential CMPA that I don’t know what normal is or should be and whether things can be improved.

He’s currently on ranitidine and nutramigen and has been for 4wks and dosage increased

But he’s still grunty/snorting sounds congested, struggles with a swollen tummy and struggles having bowl movements has a lot of wind both ends that upsets him
Regurgitates and spits up after every feed and a couple times every few days projectile vomits also baby acne flares up on face and neck not sure if related.
Lastly still only manages to sleep in Moses with a wedge for an hour once a day rest of time will only sleep in our arms he’s now 11wks old!

What needs to happen? Is it a diff formula, diff meds, thickener?! Cream for his face?!

Sorry that you're both suffering so much. My daughter it seems at 17 months has just outgrown her allergy. When we stopped bf and switched to formula nutramigen wasn't much help but neocate was. Nutramigen is a hydrolysed formula meaning it still has the milk protein in but it's broken down so the body can handle it. For some who are more sensitive this still isn't enough. Our dietitian changed us to Neocate LCP. It worked. Perhaps ask for a change of milk. I can't say much about the other symptoms I'm afraid as no experience but our paediatric gastro was eagle eyed about dry skin and eczema as I think they often go hand in hand. Are you a member of the CMPA groups on Facebook? They've been a lifesaver for me. Lots of recommendations for skin creams including Childs Farm, Weleda white mallow, Lush and Moogoo on there. Good luck x

@thechease

Hi hope you can help shed some light and give your thoughts

Spoke to GP yesterday about how despite baby on ranitidine and nutramigen and still seeing symptoms but GP unsure whether reflux and or CMPA so just targets one at a time now to change, the changes so far have just really been increasing ranitidine because she is reluctant to change formula yet as he is currently constipated she’s advised next 4days increase ranitidine to 1ml x3 a day and lactulose to get things moving as he doesn’t keep down water or water and OJ when he had it pretty much comes straight back up.
I asked what happens if this doesn’t work and she has said one option to add an an anti sickness medicine as baby regurgitates and spit up after every feed and once or twice a week projectile.

Is anti sickness medicine with ranitidine and sticking with nutramigen the way to go?! As I see from most ppl they say what worked was different formula and thickener?! I don’t know what I should be pushing for anymore!

It does make sense to target one thing at a time but it's so hard when you're watching your lo suffer. I have seen a lot of discussions on Facebook about thickeners but have no experience of them myself. Really, I can't recommend Facebook enough. There's more expertise and experience on there than anywhere else. Look at CMPA main support and also there's a reintroduction one too. I know reflux often goes hand in hand with CMPA and I also know that so many people have a tough time getting the professional support they need. You have to be so persistent and frankly difficult and don't take no for an answer. Best of luck and I'm sorry I can't be any more help.

Sorry I meant to add not sure I've ever seen much activity on Facebook about anti sickness medicine for these babies.

Thanks @thechease much appreciated I'm on the CMPA main support group so that's quite handy too thanks so much x

DS had CMPA which caused sever colic. Nutramigen sorted him out
DN had CMPA which caused silent reflux. Neocate sorted him out
Seems you might need a different milk

Problem is you do need to try different things to find out the best solution.

My daughter is 20 months and is on Neocate, ranitidine and omeperazole. Originally was just on nutramigen and ranitidine and I asked for changes many times but was always fobbed off by the gp. It was about 9 months that she was given omeperazole too and that made a big difference. Still suffering at 19 months and switched the nutramigen to Neocate and I think that's helping. I feel so bad for not pushing for things sooner. Also never seen a paediatrician but finally have the referral in progress! My daughter has silent reflux though.
